Destinations Deer Creek Reservoir Utah

Deer Creek Reservoir is located just minutes up Provo Canyon and southwest of Heber City. Deer Creek Reservoir is renowned for being one of the best all-around outdoor recreation areas in the state.

Established as a state park in 1971, the 3,260-acre Deer Creek State Park includes two concrete ramps for boat-launching, a summer-only 75-unit campground, restrooms, showers, and sewage-disposal.

The park attracts some 340,000 visitors per year. Most of the park's multiple areas are accessible directly from U.S. Route 189, which runs near the reservoir's eastern and southern shores.

The reservoir is managed as a two-tier fishery. Catchable Rainbow Trout are stocked annually, and reproducing populations of Brown Trout, Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, and Largemouth Bass are primary angler targets. Other fish species include Bluegill, Common Carp, Green Sunfish, Utah Sucker, and Yellow Perch.

Deer Creek is a very popular reservoir, so if you plan to go on a weekend, plan on sharing the water with many other boaters. If you want to enjoy Deer Creek without all the traffic, visit it during the week, you will find you almost have the whole lake to yourself.
